Modern digital cameras offer a "panorama function", which permits taking a 180° view of the surroundings by moving the camera slowly in one direction. I use this function to record a moving environment, relative to me, as revealed when looking out a train window. This is possible only in a narrow speed range, as the frenzied movement of the scenery and other objects along the railway line quickly overstrain the camera. By a slight camera movement, I can sometimes counteract the failure of the automatic mechanism. The panorama function is not intended for such recordings and the technique provides surprising and unexpected results. Often, recording will restart at a certain point again and again, resulting in fractures and offsets in the pictures. Briefly appearing objects are only partially captured; regular structures suddenly take an irregular course. This results in an alteration of the scenery that is discovered only through a second glance.
