Applying coffee grounds directly with my hands allows a direct, sensual approach to the material. This manipulation directly reflects the movement when applied to a resilient surface such as canvas. Such clear, defined gestures change if the substrate is paper, where I apply the coffee grounds with soft movements.

Works on paper
Paper is a wonderful material that can develop distinctive qualities in the process of making the artwork. It changes to develop a three-dimensional texture, playing with reflections and light and forming shadows and valleys where it collects the applied medium. Paper reveals an obvious organic character like a skin, leather, or tree bark. Unlike most other surfaces, it shapes and influences the creative process.
